Luckily, we got a marriage migrant visa(F-6-1) without any issues, and came back to Korea!
After enter the country with the marriage migrant visa, which allows you to stay for 90 days, you need to go to extend your stay and do foreigner register.
So, again, we prepared all required documents and book for the appointment at the immigration office.
* To do this, you must go to the immigration in your area.
Firstly, you should sign up on the hi korea website, because you will need to use this website again later when you extend your visa or apply for any other visa.
https://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/main_en.pt
Then you can check the required documents for extention of stay and foreigner registration.
On the top menu, click on Information > Immigration Guide > Foreigner sojourn > Extention of Stay
Information > Immigration Guide > Foreigner sojourn > Foreigner registration
After check the requirements, reserve your visit on the first page of Hi Korea by clicking the Reserve Visit on the right side of the screen.
You need to extend your stay and register foreigner in 90 days after you enter.
On the date of visit, please allow some extra time to buy a revenue stamp and write your application.
If you visit a large immigration office, they probably have a window for revenue stamps where you can buy the revenue stamp, however, it is not always available at all the immigration offices. Some small immigration offices do not have a window for revenue stamps so you need to go to the nearest post office to buy it.
In my case, I had to run to the nearest office and came back in 5-10 mins. So please check that in advance and allow enough time.
After you submit all documents, the immigration officer will check all papers thoroughly and give you the confirmation of visa extention. Also, tell you when and where you need to go to pick up your Alien ID card, then you can just pick up the card after the designated date.
The immigration officer will give you some papers regarding rules and law in Korea, and you also have obligatory declarations.
These are mandatory obligation, so please be aware of these obligation.
You will get a notice by mail 4 months before expiration of the visa regarding the extention.
You can extend your visa at any time after you get the notice, then you will get between 1 to 3 years extention depending on your situation.
The extended period will be added on your first entry date.
For example,
Entering Korea: 1/1/2019 -> your visa expires on 31/3/2019 (90days)
Extention in 90 days of the entry on 1/2/2019 -> your visa expires on 1/1/2020 (1 year from the first entry)
Extention 3 months before expiration on 1/10/2019 -> your visa expires on 1/1/2021 (if you get 1 year extention, but the extended period will vary depending on your situation)
If you have children, you might get 2 to 3 years extention.
Also, by completing the early adaptation class, you can get 1 extra year of visa extention. Will explain the course in the next post.
